I'm currently building a new viv and am going to make a hide out of some slate and silicon it all together, I have heard that I would need to bake the slate first to kill off any bacteria.

Does anyone know if I should wash the slate or treat it with anything fefore baking?
When baking is it just a cse of putting the slate in the oven? if so how hot does the oven need to be and how long would the slate go in for?

could you not just wash and scrub the slate in a bleach solution and then rinse it well?

Or just soak in a reptile friendly disinfectant like Tamodine-E.

I'd just soak the slate for 24 hours in the Tamodine-E.Then just rinse really well.

id just soak it in boiling water, stones are not like wood or sponge so can only have a few bactieria on the serface at most,i think baking it could make it crack or break and washing it with bleach is overkill and will do more harm than good if you dont rince of the bleech properly.
