Default Egg eaters....

does anyone know of someone, or some where who can supply me with finch, java sparrow or chinese painted quail eggs?
I know I could breed my own, but I'd like a reliable supply too before I risk having anything go wrong with my own breeding stock.

Have you tried Honeybrook Farm?
If they don't do them themselves they may know someone who does

I am getting an egg eater too. You can use ebay as a back up or there is a thread in the for sale section under domestic animals just now. I will be getting my eggs from him when I pick up the snake.

If you google budgie breeders with your area, you should find a local breeding club who may be willing to supply you. Also, there are a lot of websites who sell quail eggs for bringing up as game birds.

Hope that helps.

My local tesco does quail eggs now in the "specialist" section but at quite a price! Have used ebay fine before.

Please don't forget about making sure your egg eaters get enough Biotin in their diets as if they lack it, they can have convulsive fits which lead to their death if not treated promptly.

You also need to take into account that these snakes require some UVB as otherwise they suffer from MBD just as lizards do. I am not saying rush out and get 2.0 UVB tubes for them as I know over the years close contact with the tubes can blind the snakes, but holding your egg eater now and again outside in the sun for a few minutes can really help in avoiding this problem.

Good luck with the species. I love them, and will sorely miss mine when all gone, having kept them for many years.

Mo.

Thanks for this

I'm aware of the Biotin and MBD issues, but I think its something a lot of people arent aware of with egg eaters. Seems now I've got food and a set up ready, I've just gotta find the snake now lol
