Default corn snake cohabitation information please

can i please get some information on housing yearling corns togethor?

ive got 2 corn snakes, same size but one is slightly older than the other. male and female. the female is the older one, nearer two years old. im told that ive missed the breeding season, so when it next comes around it would make her nearer 3 years old. only reason to put them togethor is the females vivarium has has to go and i cant afford a new vivarium plus all the stuff to heat it!

anyway as much information as possible please. i wnt to know the best conditions to introduce them in. stuff like that. i know about feeding separately etc... though

you will get different views on this - some people quite happily keep them together whereas others are concerned for health risks and so on and the strain on the female if the male tries to mate with her constantly.

Can you not put them in 50l RUBs instead of vivs... you can buy them from argos at about a tenner each you will just need a heat mat and a mat stat.

its not just that, its the space aswell. im in quite a small room with 2 large vivs. the one she is going into would be 4x2x2. my room gets extremely hot, and with the addition of another heat mat in there would get hotter still lol. i knew that opinions where divided, but i just wanted as much information as i can get before i come to a decision. thanks

the bottom line is more can go wrong when cohabiting.

You simply have to make the decision as to if your snakes will be more ast risk or less at risk.

Theres really no way of saying this without sounding like a bit of a twat but if space really is such an issue don't add more animals.

well i have the space, its the extra heat in the room that im not sure about. im starting to think maybe dividing the 4x2x2 into 2 separate vivs might be an idea

not sure a 2x2x2 would be big enough though - especially when fully grown?

if your room is THAT hot, get 3foot under bed box and keep your female by herself in that, with a small heatmat,if controlled by a stat there shouldnt be a dramatic difference in room temperature..i co-habit my same-sex corns without any problems, they all shed eat etc fine and fed separately..problem u will face though is that even if you male mates with urs at the beginning of the year and she lays eggs, theres nothing stopping him to continue when u put her back in..my males are still randy at the end of august so i wouldnt risk it to be honest..unless your after a clutch every year..

a 2x2 isnt going to be large enough for a decent sized 3yr old corn tbh..id suggest getting the rub, keeping her in there for another year and then u can decide once theyre both bigger and once you know shes at a comfortable breeding size..
