Many breeders do not brumate their corn snakes but get viable clutches every year. Corn snakes are cyclic animals and take seasonal cues from other things such as day length and sunrise/sunset times etc.

If you think about it, in warm states of the U.S.A such as Florida, the average winter temperature is anywhere between 55F and 78F so if you emulated those temperatures in the vivarium by dropping the warm end temperature to 78F then they will be likely to breed come spring when you warm it up again.

So no, it is not essential to brumate them.

a big benifit of cycling is it triggers the reproduction centre in the pineal area in the brain which basically send "wake up its time to reproduce" signals the the ovaries and testes, cycling is much more important with tropical species than it is with corns (tropical species only produce live sperm and viable eggs after brumation) but its a good habit to get into...
good look

never ever kept them or wanted too, but of the top of my head i think they congragate in huge numbers(100s/1000s) in caves and spend the winter there, (not sure how long) but months certainly, i know when they do emerge there still could be snow on the ground!!!!! , they also breed in huge balls of snakes often with loads n loads a males rolling around a female..... hope fully someone else will elaborate on this as im not a garter keeper.........
