Default Medical help Quick

Hi guys a bad thing happened to nt 20.30 hrs... my cat managed to get the viv door opened and get at my young hognose, when we got to it ,it was lying on the floor in a ball with its mouth wide open and tougue hanging out and lying on its back, we thought it was dead ,but when we picked it up, it started to move slightly.... we just thought it was suffering so we put it back in the viv, but as time went on it started to move a bit more so we dont know what the out come is going to be, but i have noticed a slight cut on its side what do uses recommend doing, i can't get it to a vet to nt nearest one is 30 miles away in Belfast and he is closed.
Any help would be great

hoggies do play dead when threatened and this is done exactly as you described (on its back, mouth open, tongue out) so it sounds like it was lucky and the cat got bored!!!! (thats why hoggies do it!!!)
but definitely get it checked out...

Describe the wounds? How deep/long and where? Is there any bleeding?

If he is moving and you can't do anything I would suggest leaving him alone and maybe turn the light out and take him to the vet tomorrow. If you're lucky the cat will only have caused superficial cuts as a lot of the time cats like to "play" rather than kill to eat.

Good luck

id place it back in the viv, turn the lights out and have another look in 20 mins...if the coast is clear your hoggie may "come back to life"...

Yes, the hoggies do tend to play dead - but keep an eye on him, and as someone else suggested, turn the heat up a little. Hope the little guy's OK but if he's moving around his viv again this morning he probably is. Let us know how it goes.

Might be a good idea to put a lock/wedge on the viv doors so cat can't get at him again.

Yep small viv lock should sort out that happeneing again.. and if a cat has done it once its likely to at least try again...

Gotta love hoggies playign dead though! lol. If you have some iodine that is good for the cuts, just brush a little on the cut using a small cloth. Be careful it stains like a bitch on materials. Get him looked over by a vet though, but u seam to have got lucky
