Default Overpriced much!?

On the way home I stopped off at a local pet shop and had a nosey at their corn snakes....a few weeks ago they got some new ones in and I had a play with the new butter motley and I really liked it but it wasn't priced up or for sale....so I had a look today....£79.99!!! pardon?? lol and they had a male lavender for £110.00 and these are only little hatchlings....

and I really wanted that butter motley too

£80 is really not that expensive at all for a butter motley! Especially from a shop.

Seems just about right for a pet shop to me. Normal butter hatchlings usually go for around 50 from breeders so i'd say 80 is around the right mark for a shop.
Most pet shops do generally overprice things though

80 quid for a butter motley is not too bad from a pet shop........people always forget that Pet Shops have huge overheads and they have to pay tax on their earnings........

Most private breeders have very low overheads

One thing to remember is ....................if the Pet Shops Dissapear I think the hobby will dissapear with them

Agreed. Most of us start at shops and do go their if theres something we REALLY want. Most of us cant captive breed boscs or know a breeder and we dont have access to wholesalers so if you want one its normally re homing them or shop time. I still use shops for tarantulas and some reptiles, lets face it if you go to shops you pay shop prices. Shops are also a good place to look at a breed of animal you want and you can see what your buying and make a decision than pot luck with some breeders.

Totaly agree, I would be tempted to say its an excellent price for a shop to ask.

People always seem to forget that shops have to make a profit

its not I got my male lavender from Snakes n Adders when it was in Leeds and he cost me £60!

the pet shop in question told me the butter motley would be £50 when I asked them before.....

its not just a reptile shop, its aquatics, birds, reptiles, bunnies, rats, gerbils etc and all the equipment too, and its part of a garden centre

I shall just wait til I go to a show or something
