Default Travelling with a snake.

Hi all! my first post! *waves*

we live in Scotland, but twice a year we travel by car down to London to stay with my parents for a couple of weeks. it's a good 8 hour drive, usually done over night (much easier when you've got 3 kids in the back!)

We have to take all our pets with us (all 9 of them!) as we don't have anyone local who could just pop in and feed them.

my concern is mainly with our new snake - a baby corn - travelling down this winter. Obv the car is gonna be pretty cold and I'm worried about how this will affect him.

I was in the chemsit the other day and saw those heat packs you can use for muscle aches, and wondered if those could be used as temporary heat mats to keep the wee thing warm while we travel down? if not, does anyone else have any suggestions?

many thanks

Laurie

Cars usually arent that cold, even at night...specially if you have the kids with you! My car is snug with the heater on...the heatpacks would do fine though! Sounds like a good back up plan!!

Hot water bottle wrapped in a blanket so snake cant get in direct contact is one solution. Rather than those heat packs for back ache go into an outdoor shop and get those hand warmers used when walking/skiing/hiking. Make sure you wrap them in something though they'll get over 50C but stay hot for good 6-8 hours and should do you fine. Use them for my leopard gecko when i take her home on train.

we're going for about 2 weeks.

I guess it depends on quite how cold it is come the time, lately around here it's bearly been getting above freezing and the cars haven't been getting all that warm at all, even with heat on full. plus hubby doesn't like to keep the car too warm when driving as it makes you sleepy.

I have the heat packs from the chemist for my bad back but when I'm traveling any distance with a snake I wrap one in teatowel and put it in the snakes box (preferably a small-ish box). I then put the snake in a pillowcase with a few crumpled up sheets of newspaper and tie the end of the pillowcase up to stop the snake coming out. I then put the pillowcase in the snakes box and close down the lid. That way the snake can move a little but doesn't come into direct contact with the heat pack.
It keeps warm for about 9 hours

Not sure why anyone else hasnt written this yet, but if i was gone for only 2 weeks, i would leave the snake at home. IMO you gonna do more harm than good shifting it around the country.
