Each to the own.

I like Royals and Boa's, they are fun, mid sized and low-ish maitaince.

As I work 7 days a week, I would not have the time required to own an ETB or similar high maintaince snake.

None really i spose...lol! I just dont understand the love for these snakes? Most people on this forum seem to love them and if anyone asks what to get its all they suggest etc Corns have lots of morphs i spose.. but royals just seem to be problem feeders, pretty tame colouring..not very active in my experience..

Because most people that have to ask are new to the hobby, and therefore royals and corns are some of the best and safest options.

If you wanted something more exotic, its likely you'd not need ask us lot whether it was worth getting, you'd already know.

But there's lots of others without going too "exotic".. not argueing in the slightest its just something i dont get really? IMO a royal is no more a starter snake than most others kept..

i agree on the corns, used to have one but it wasnt much of a pet, but my royal whispa is awesome, he has no problems eating, loves to be handled and watches tv with me

I guess my own person view would be because of all the lower priced snakes lets say less than £100, royals and corns have in my opinion, the best temprement.

From my own expierence, my biggest fear being a new owner was getting bitten, I still kind of fear it, I'm not a fan of pain.

I find kings and rats to be a tad more bitey as they are much more active. Royals especially and corns to a lesser degree are more lazy, and if kept correct are less likely to bite, therefore they'd be my recommendation to a new own to get them used to handlng snakes confidently.

I have three royals, I agree in the great scheme of reptiles they are not the cleverest, brightest, longest, heaviest or most aggressive. But, they are what they are, placid, shy and quiet creatures.

My neighbours come round not to really see me but to see them, touch and handle them. Learn and not be overawed. My next door neighbours daughter regards it as a treat to feed them and I have no real concerns for her safety when she is doing so.

As I learn the collection is slowly increasing in size and complexity of handling. If I have had a stressful day though, I know I can come in select any one of the Royals and within minutes be destressed as they curl back up in a warm spot on me and carry on their briefly disturbed nap, whilst tolerating any amount of stroking.
