Default Quarantine How and Why.

I am interested to hear how people quarantine there new snakes and why they do it. So, how long do YOU quaratine a new animal for?, where do you have a quarantine area? different corner, seperate room, seperate building? or maybe you dont quarantine at all. What are your methods and procedures?

Personlly I would keep them in a seperate room, I'd keep the new snake on clear white paper so it was easy to spot stuff dropping off, mainly mites.

Also you can luck of for signs of illness.

I'd keep the new snake separate for about 1 month.

Iv seen quite a few people get slated recently for not following any quarantine procedures. I thought people would have more to say.

I have a separate room, with quarantine tubs and also different tweezers and stuff for them.
I use to treat new snake's tubs with provent a mite even if I know they have no mites (u never know).
I use to quarantine them for at least 1 month if I know the source is safe, if not even more, up to 6 months, and never get more snakes if I'm quarantining others.

I know why people quarantine Boas and Pythons... because of IBD.

But with regards other snakes, such as Kings, would quarantine really be necessary if the animal is clearly in good health from a reputiable source?

Are there any such, equally nasty, virii for other snakes?

crypto is highly contagious and can infect kings, milks, corns as well as pythons, boas etc etc, its always better to qurantine, to make sure all is well, even from a reputable source, mites can be a big problem, and even reputable sources can end up with their stock covered, think they have treated the problem only to find they have missed a few and new owners find them.

My new snakes go into my spare bedroom for a month at least - they are placed in a normal - appropriate sized viv with substrate etc. but are inspected every other day after their week settling in period.

Touch wood, to date no nasty surprises yet

everybody knows IBD, but there are a lot of contagious diseases involved.
quarantine your animals, always!
few year ago a US breeder killed himself cause he was desperate after have been lost his whole ETB collection (a massive one) for a new snake not quarantined.
