Default Garage Conversion into Snake Room

Hello All,

I am new to this site, however I have been reading all your posts for a long time and thourght it was about time I signed up.

We have just moved house and we have a large single garage detached from the house that I would like to convert into a snake room for housing and breeding boas and ball pythons which I plan to do next year.

The question I have for all you guys and girls is has anyone done this before successfully? I am really looking for hints and tips as I don't really have a clue where to start.

I will keep you all up to date on my progress and post pictures should you be interested.

Thanks for reading my long first ever post.

I think the first most important thing to me to do is to clear the garage completely and figure out what type of flooring I am going to put down as I would like to try and not loose so much heat through the concrete floor.

Anyway anyone who can help with ideas etc that would be great.

I will take some pictures tomorrow of the blank canvas.

id batten the walls and floor out with 3x2 insulate in between the battens with rockwool or if u could afford it kingspan then cover with half inch ply on the walls and three quaters on the floor, make sure you put plenty of electric points in as there was a bad fire a while back caused by faulty electrics

Good advice there. Thanks for that.

I have a total of 4 plug sockets in the garage which could be a problem from the word go.

I intend on having a mixture of pro-racks and 6x1.5x2 4 4 high viv stacks.

Do I need a way of keeping the room temp at a certain level or would the vivs and racks be ok with there heaters?

I would run another cable cable from your consumer unit....say off a 45amp breaker.....10mm T&E.....and fit another smaller consumer unit in your garage and then use this to feed all your garage electrics.
You could even run a 16mm cable straight off your incomer(obviously on your side of the board) and have a full size board fitted.
You then have the capacity to fit a lot of sockets...lights etc.
