Default Snakes around shoulders/neck/face??

When I handle my snakes, I try NEVER let them anywhere near my neck/face/shoulders - I prefer to see where their heads are at all times, for a couple of reasons.

One, if I can see where their heads are, I am less likely to startle them and get bitten; and two, I was told ages ago NEVER to let a snake near your face as they will focus on the "hot spots", ie mouth, eyes etc and are a bit more likely to strike at you (not sure if this is true...?)

I see a lot of comments here about snakes sitting on people's heads, "kissing" them, winding round necks/shoulders, going down sleeves etc and wonder if I am the only person who prefers to keep their snakes around the hand/arm area (if that makes sense).

I can understand if you have something large (boa, for instance) that can drape over a shoulder but you can still control its head, sort of thing.

How do you peeps prefer to handle your snakes, and why? Has anyone been bitten by accidently startling the snake whilst they couldn't see its head?

I just pretty much sit down with the snake and let it climb over me depending on the size of the snake.

Mine usually just sit.
My rat snake has a thing about wrapping herself round my wrist then sitting with her head rested on my hand

my boa once went over my shoulder and down my back, then as he came back to my front he turned into my hand as i lowered my arm which startled him and led to me getting a nip across the knuckles.

He also shot up past my face to get onto the near by open door as it was higher ground and in doing so he startled himself with the peek of my baseball cap and struck at that too.

Hes just a jumpy guy i guess.

My corn is ultra tame always round my neck, up my sleeves lol never had any problems with him...

My first royal was very tame when young he used to curl up in my jogging bottom pockets and just sit there with his head poking out lol he wasa awsome

My newest young royal after i had had him for a week got him out for the first time at first was just sitting there staring at my face lol... after a few mins he decided to explore up my arms onto shoulders and then neck area, went to pick him up and i felt a flick agaisnt my thumb so i am guessing i startled him and he warned me off with a strike lol but he may of needed just a little more time to settle in

my corn and royals i let go where they want, they have never bitten or struck at me and none are particularly jumpy.

My boa however I try not to let near my neck, she's not at all jumpy and i have no worries about her biting but as strong as I know i am i dont think i could get her off my neck if she decided to constrict, even if she did it to stop falling off.

I think it all depends on temprement of snake and howmuch experience you've got with it. Initially i wont let any snake near by face but with time if i learn to trust it then ill relax more. I let my argentine round my neck, shes tame and never aggressive but i know some corns i wouldnt let near my neck.
