Default Shredded Paper Substrate?

I've got a shredder that just sits around collection dust, adn I've also got a bunch of old papers laying around getting chewed on by cats.
So is it possible to shred the paper, leave it to dry (ink that might be left in there) and use it as a substrate to allow burrowing?

dunno about your old paper , especially if cats are messing with it but i use shredded paper for lots of mine
i get it from shredder at work and my own
i make sure that no envelopes or anything gummed/glue gets shredded and i dont shred anything suspect
general mail and sometimes newspaper goes in mine
looks much nicer than flat newspaper and easy to use/clean
ink doesnt seem a problem (and once shredded it somehow seems that its more white paper than printed comes into contact with snake)
corns love burrowing in it sometimes
