Default Quick fire question round!!

Ok, my delightful other half has got very excited by our new little girl corn, and has been reading up on genetics and breeding........ pity me please, my head hurts cos he keeps talking at me!! A couple of questions have come up that I don't know the answer to....
1), we know minimum breeding requirements are 300g in weight and 3 feet in length (we're talking corns here). Any idea what age they are likely to attain this, or even whether it matters? ie if they are 2yo and the right weight/length is it still better to wait until they are 3yo? Please note, we are not planning on power feeding any animals in this house!
2) Can the males breed earlier than the females?
3) Can you put a male to more than one female per breeding season? If so how would you go about scheduling it, and what do you need to do anything specific regarding disease transmission other than follow normal quarantine requirements?

Any enlightenment would be great. Many thanks.

Debbie

i havent bred my corns as yet, but the rule of thumb is 3 years, 3 foot and 3oo grams. males could probably go earlier as they dont have as much work to do, and i know royal males go much earlier than the females. yes the male could go to more than one female. some have the females in different vivs and move the male, some might put the females and the male all in the one viv. i think i would go with separate though.

1) 3 Yo, approx.
2) yes, but 3yo seems to suit males and females well.
3) yes, BHB do this. just mark the male with a paint marker, then move it between 3 or 4 females. and just observe quarentine requirements.

1.. getting to 300g will vary so much its unreal. i have seen 300g in under a year, and others never make it.
2.. males can bred very early, my earliest was 8 months.
3.. the most i have heard of was 15 females, my most is this year, that will be 5.. although no idea yet which, if any of those will be successful.

15, good grief, well done that snake!! He must have been cream crackered by the end!!

By the way, could you please not display your sale list so prominently - at the moment, Adam is busy trying to whittle down his list of dream snakes from all of them to, well I don't know, probably all of them!!

Be very careful... We got our first corn on 1st Jan 09 and are currently in England collecting some. When we get home we will have 14 snakes altogether (13 corns, 1 Royal) and I am also ordering some corns on the 2009 corn run.

Oh, and we're eating beans on toast or the next year...
