Default For Our Younger Members - How Good Of A Keeper Are You & How Good Do You Want To Be?

Sooo this may get locked but that's fine as it's not meant to become a great debate and it's not directly linked to snakes but this is where it will reach some of those it needs to.

Lately we have seen on here a huge boom of younger members, which is good because young keepers are the future old hands who can pass down the knowledge to the next generation of youngsters but things seem to be going down the wrong road lately.

There's a lot of threads deliberately stirring trouble and slating other younger keepers, it needs to stop. Some people start off brilliantly in this hobby but others don't and these people need educating but there's ways and means of doing this, people can only be helped if they want to be helped and they need to do this themselves they won't do it for you or anyone else and THEY need to come and ASK for the help in order to be receptive.

The more flaming dished out the more of a head-strong barrier the person it is aimed to will put up which can turn a bad situation worse. Also a lot of this bull that gets posted is just bull and people need to learn to turn a blind eye rather than rise to it which in 9/10 cases is what the person is looking for.

I started out young at 15 and god knows i made a few balls ups and still do, EVERYONE does and i can think of moments when all of you have stirred things up, tried to make another member look small to make yourself look big, post blatent lies, try to be the smartarse which only makes you look the fool and come here asking for help because you thought you'd messed up or knew you had and needed the help...

So if you want to be a good keeper now and a better keeper in the future REMEMBER your own stuff ups, look back at your first few threads and posts, especially your locked ones and see WHY they were locked.

Take a step back, think about things and grow up a bit, show people how good you can be as a keeper by ignoring the rubbish and being helpful and STOP with the posting stupid threads to provoke reactions e.g. other peoples setups, other peoples additions, other peoples videos, snakes for rescue that aren't and also stop referring to your reptiles as an accessory which makes you look cooler than the next person.

If you want to keep then keep because you love it, if you want to post then post something constructive, if someone makes a thread to make you look the tit then just ignore it and if you feel the urge to make a thread solely to comment on someone elses mistakes then think WHY you need to do it and is it NECESSARY?

Like i say this may well get locked or it may not but i'm hoping the relevant people read this and think about it and make a conscious effort to stop belittling others which will in the process earn them a bit more respect and allow them to be taken more seriously as well as making them more approachable by members who need and want help.

The End.

should of put it on the forum questions and the advise bit. Its still going to happen whether you like it or not. Its like asking the world to stop war but its not going to happen. I dont seek an arguement at all but a few do. I get your point though.

Here here. Well said, and well written. To all you youngsters (and adults who are just as bad), this hobby is about the animals and their welfare. We all need to remember that the animals safety and welfare is paramount and should be our top priority, PERIOD. These beautiful animals should never be used to show off, and should never be exploited or abused.

We all need to remember that the forum is a tool where we can all share our experiences, give advice to others, and seek out the information we need to ensure our beautiful reps have the best possible lives. Let's get away from all this bullying and p*ss taking and remember why we are all on this site....

WE ALL LOVE REPS.

I PERSONALLY don't care whether they argue or not but some do and i think there comes a point where people need to realise life does go on outside of RFUK and that acting a plank on RFUK doesn't actually make you as big as you want to be and that being sensible and making a positive contribution once in a while gets you a lot further a lot faster...

I think its a nice idea.
I believe the point is to try and remind people to sometimes but a little more open minded about matters.
Granted theres ALWAYS going to be arguements/critisicm/back biting and bitching but thats just forum life lol

Tbh i think people get a little too addicted to this place. I have a nice life outside this internet forum. I come on here to enjoy my hobby and have a laugh. Others spend every hour of the day on here which tbh is rather sad

I think many of our younger member forget we ALL started at the bottom knowing pretty much naff all except what the bloke in the shop said and that we ALL still have LOADS to learn but people need to be given the opportunity to learn and the omg look at this realllyyy bad setup or omg this idiot thinks he's going to get a 90ft anaconda what a tit lets make a massive thread on it to laugh at them isn't actually making anyone want to ask anything and if people don't ask it's the animals that pay not them and not us...
