Hi everyone, just thought that i would post up a kind of "joining"post....
Well i have just taken ownership of a South African Bull Snake. She is 15yrs old and is 6feet long. She is a kind of brown and white. I have some VERY good pics of her and will post them up as soon as my wife finds the docking station for the digital camera. She has placed it in a "safe place" apparently!!! We got her from my step-mum who has her since birth. She is in a 4 1/2 foot tank. My wife is very wairy of her at the moment and so am i a little but she is a litte (well not so little :P) beauty. As soon as the docking station is found i will post up a whole load of pics for everyone. I do have one question for you all. Does anyone know a good website for a news tank for her as the tank is kind of dingy and we want a nice new one for her. Thanks Barrie |

Hi and welcome to the forum!
A Bull\Snake come under the family of snakes called colubridae. They are also known as Pine Snakes and Gopher Snake from what I have read on the WWW anyway! The only one I have seen is an albino Bull and it was a real hissy bugger! |

Well Suzie (not named by us :P) is now on the sofa climbing over my wife!! She is really nervous at the moment, my wife that is, lol!! I do have another question as well, your gonna get bored of my questions lol. Its about striking and biting. Me and my wife, Lyndsey, are a bit wairy that she is going to strike and bite us. We have been told by my stepmum that she is not a very angry snake and herself has never been bitten by suzie. Her exhusband has as he used to aggravate the snake apparently. Anyways is it true they will only strike/bite when they are coiled back???

It is a good sign that a snake is gonna strike strike when it is in a 's' shaped coiled position but I wouldnt expect that every time she does that she will strike but then again i wouldnt expect her to coil berfore she does strike! In truth snakes are wild animals and could strike/bite without warning at any time. But just as a precaution just make sure to wash your hands after handling food or you may get a nasty surprise!

Thanks for that advice Andy. Well we have a 4 1/2 foot vivarium that she stays in. It has a number of small logs on there and also a square box that she likes to coil up in!! There is also a lamp in the viv but im not to sure that this is going to keep her at the correct temp. Anybody know what the best temp would be to keep her at. Im going to be buying the next viv with a thermometer in it so we can regulate the temperature, is that a good idea??
