Default Paperwork????

Hi there

Just wondering what exactly 'paperwork' means. Ive heard of people saying they can sell their snakes (especially het morphs) with the paperwork.

I have a certificate from where I got my het albino that says it is what it is. But I know this was produced by the shop and they give one whether you buy a snake or a rabbitt.

Is there some ultimate document you can ask for as authenticity because if not, surely 'paperwork' is not worth the paper its printed on and ultimately its the reputation of the place you got it that matters surely and if you trust them or not.

I mean I trust the shop I got mine from but until they can produce the parents that made the snake, there will always be doubt.

Any thoughts?

It varies I think. I have CITES paperwork for my Dumerils Boa as they are an endangered species, and so heavily restricted. CITES proves it was born in captivity, and you can't buy one without it - its illegal.

That is what 'paperwork' means to me anyway.

really you just want documents to show the bloodline. if your buying a snake to breed with another snake you want to know that there not related,

Paperwork for 'hets' are only worth what the breeders reputation is! If the snake is a visual then paperwork just shows the parentage, breeder and is nice to have.

The majority of my Boa's have paperwork (all but 2) and I produce my own paperwork for the boa's we breed...this shows both the parents and who bred them, and the boa sold. All the boa's I breed also have an ID number that I keep a copy off so they can be traced and I know when they were bred and parents. And if anyone questions they can always come see the parents, parents paperwork and photos of the litters

you could also use the "paperwork" to have someone prosecuted for fraud if you found out the snake you had bought didnt have the genetics the breeder claimed. "paperwork" essentially is the breeder admitting liability

for instance i bought a 100% het for kahl 2 years ago and have since found out it wasnt a female but a male...i have a certificate as it was a well known welsh breeder and have been considered giving him a ring

however now the male seems to fit into breeding plans as i can breed him (was named kali...now named karl) with my salmon het for kahl female

CITES paperwork is only needed with species listed on appendix I which if you look at the DEFRA site you will find a list of all listed animals

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalhealth...20318-2008.pdf

The link above gives all species listed not just reptiles so you'll need to trawl through it a bit!!!

Hope this helps,

Mike.
