Default Chondro eggs arrive...but not in a nice way!

Hi all,

On Friday I had a female biak green tree python begin to lay. It soon became apparent that there was a problem because she only laid three eggs and retained the rest. After 24 hours with no more eggs laid I decided to remove the female from the nest box and soak her in warm water for half an hour before returning her to the nest box. Sadly I found her dead this morning (Sunday) with no further eggs laid.

I made the decision to open her up and I found a further 15 eggs and one slug inside her, all about 6-8 inches up from the vent with no obvious obstruction preventing them from being laid. All 15 eggs showed good vein development and the embryos could be seen. I've put them in the incubator (and crossed all my fingers and toes) but I just wondered if anyone else had had any similar experiences or has successfully hatched out eggs obtained in this way?

Oh, the joys of reptile breeding!

I've had similar things with a few colubrid species but can't honestly remember hatching anything from eggs removed like this.

Good Luck with them anyways.

Mike.

Mate, thats such a pity.

Fingers crossed all the eggs hatch healthy to at least slightly make up for the loss of the adult.

Are you having a PM to determine the cause of death?

I decided to try and save the eggs by cutting her open to remove them. I don't think a PM would be possible now due to the damage I've done opening her up to get to the eggs.

I'd imagine that was a tough thing to have to do so fair play to you
