Feeding Tips

my girl hadnt eaten for around 5 months...so i swapped her from her viv into a rub (35ltr) then i upped the temps to 99 hot end..and upped the humidity to 75% then i covered her rub with a thick towel for 3 days and left her alone....i didnt even spot clean or change the water, i just left her by herself..

then i pulled her out of her cave and dropped a chick just outside the opening then i put her back in her rub and covered the rub back over with the towel.....

and this is the result......

Bumping this thread as I think its something everyone should read!

all our snakes are exellent feeders ( only refuse on a very very rare basis ... maybe when shedding but again still very rare)
we don't really do anything special I think we are just lucky although we try to get them to strike to keep them interested.

Good points made although I would never advise feeding live due to risk possed to snake if your feeding anything bigger than a fluff as cornered rodents WILL fight back! (I kept rodents as pets some years back and know thier nature and well as reptiles!)

as pointed out earlier would like to know the advantage of taking snake for a drive?

It is thought the movement stimulates the gut flora....... so making the snake feel 'hungry' and it does seem to work in some cases.

just a point to say if you have any worries, and you've had no problems in past (like myself) my female royal recently stopped feeding, i took advice from this site(not to worry) over 4/5 weeks. decided enough was enough and had her checked out by a herp vet, turns out she had septicemia poisonig of blood+also a bit anemic, still waiting on blood resuts to find cause?? Vet recons nothing wrong with husbandry! I just knew it wasn't like her+wanted to get her checked for sure! Glad i did!!
so if your worried+your snake hasn't ate in a month or two+it's not breeding season, get them checked! watch out for reddish blotches on belly+pale soft tissue(mouth)

aye you get boa's, pythons, corns, ratsnakes, list goes on!
just lookin after the wellbein of the snakes mate+lettin people know there might be an underlying issue.

she stopped eating again ...but at least she has fed for me now so i know she will eat again one day.

another thing i have found to work is take her/his hide away for 4-5 hours and leave a light on (so they feel slightly inscure) then place their hide back where it came from and drop prey right at the entrace of their hide and turn the light off and cover the viv so it is completely dark..this way they when they feel unscure and you add there security again i supose it gives them a boost in confidence once they get their hide back and leave they prey item in over night.........do not even have a peep just leave them alone untill the next morning.
