could be responding to tv images or somthing to do with the light coming from the tv sounds like a threat position as that behavior is not uniqe as for the reaction perhaps its saying that it knows your its freind and dosent want to strike but will if it has to or it could just be disorientated

The cobra position wouldn't normally be a threat display typical of carpet pythons, more likely he was curious of the TV which would be a very strange object indeed for a snake.
Sounds like you took him by surprise. If the body shape was anything like an "S" then this is very likely a striking / threat display. Try to take the snake so that you're visible.

cobra position as in sitting up? thats not what i'd call a strike position as they usually go straight into the "s" position. maybe he was just having a nose about, mine can get very curious to whats going on outside the vivs. and as for the head shaking he might just not wanna be touched were u touching him

Hi,
My carpet uses a defensive twitch like motion with his head. I thought at first he was developing something wrong with him, but have now learnt that this is him telling me to stay away before getting into the strike position. A bit like tail vibrating the likes of rat snakes do, I have now learnt to ignore it and take the gamble ![]() Jonny. |
