Arrow Isit just me or is this cruel / greedy ?

Hi i was speaking to some one a while back about certain ssnakes and i asked about breeidng and they said they wouldnt tell me how because they are one of very few to succesfully breed them , well i was thinkingisnt that a bit stupid , because :

A) They are just doing it to sell CB for high prices
B) if not many are around anyway ( wild and captivity) its very helpfull to breed

what doy ou think ? i suppose lots of people do this ( no offence to you if you do) but i just dnt think its fair.

im guessin the best thing to do would be try trial and error and once you get it right tell everyone how to do it especially if they live near the person who wont help you and put them outta business

To be honest it depends on the animal were talking about

If it was someone not giving advise to another person about breeding corns or something then yea...although you could find it out from other sources.
But in some cases people have other reasons for keeping there methods a secrete....ive bred clabars twice, but wont say the methods i used incase its a fluke and would like to try my method a few more times so i know it works.....my viper boas i breed, they are known as very hard to rear the babies and also get them feeding. ive been breeding them for 3 years and all of my babies feed. I have discussed with matt and guy about how i do it as they are also candoia breeders with a good few years behind them with keeping canoida speices....but the methods arent striaght forward so i prefer not to just tell anyone.

harder to breed snakes tend to be less common and sometimes they can be harder to keep, so people prefer not to tell others.

i dont mean to sound daft but if you new the breeder and asked them for help if you had the same speices then am sure they would help....but if you just speak to a breeder you dont no, and ask for there secretes then i dont blame them for not telling you.

Snake breeding doesn't make very much money unless you have something someone else doesn't. I really can't blame them for not telling everyone who walks in how to breed something that might be very difficult to breed in captivity.

It's an interesting one, more related to ego/intellectual property than greed to be honest

If a person has spent a lot of time and possibly money pioneering a species, aspect of difficult husbandry or bred a "rare" species they are likely to be guarded for many reasons.
Others might use the information purely for greed and their own financial gain, on the other hand surely it must be a nice little egotrip to think of yourself as the only person who has ever achieved or known that particular thing?

Perhaps they have spent years pouring their heart and soul into cracking it, why would they just tell you immediately on demand?

P.S: I don't get it myself, sharing is always the way

or perhaps they dont think YOU should be breeding...its an option really and more polite than telling someone you think they are a noob and have no place breeding animals
