i would strongly advise against a false water cobra as a your first snake.

I use a 2x1x1 but hes only a juvenile, I use a compost/bark mix to keep the humidity but you can use just bark or beech chip and also cypress moss.

He has a large water bowl and lots of hides. He is cute and as long as you research the snake there is no reason why a FWC shouldn't be your first snake.

The likelyhood is, you might buy something tamer and get bored of it. As long as you are confident then you will be fine :P

PM me if you do get one, il be happy to help.

as sed above, definetly not a first snake, but saying that, the one i picked up today was really tame! I've just put mine in a large contico box for now, and ill be putting him into a 2ftx2ftx2ft viv with some shelves for him to climb about on before the end of the week (gotta finish it, just needs glass). Apparently its really important that these guys have a wet hide as otherwise they have serious trouble shedding. No really sure what size these guys max out at, ive heard various, from 5ft to 10ft, but at coldblooded they said they usually max out at 5ft for males, and im inclined to believe them.

does anyone know if a bulb or a mat would be best to heat these? ive got either and would rather use a mat to save on electric, but i dont know if these guys really bask or wat.

Here is a good care sheet from a forum member -http://www.reptileforums.co.uk/snake...ed-please.html

There is no point in me showing you what I have mine in as its a temp viv. As they grow to roughly 5ft (male) il be housing him permanently in a larger viv, but for now hes quite content. I use a heat mat to heat the viv and will either switch to a ceramic for the bigger viv depending on how much the mat heats it. At the moment hes happy with the temperature.

As for the temperement, mines quite tame, he'l put on a display when hes agitated but hes never stiked at me
Go for it, they are gorgeous snakes.

Also what it doesn't say on the sheet ( I think) is that you can feed them fish... Mine LOVES fish. Hes had live Bitterling, chunks of salmon and trout. However you mustn't feed them too much fish, I would personally feed mostly rodents and a chunk of fish as a treat

As above, definately not a good first snake - however if you want something to read then try here

Care sheets

these snakes pack a powerful punch and get quite large
