Olive oil, bring the snake out, wash it down, clean the viv, rub olive oil all over the snake and put him back in. Might take a couple of goes but it works.

one of the best ways to clear vivs - NOT PLASTIC VIVS - is with a hot air gun being vareful not to burn the melamine by keeping it moving.

It has a 100% success rate and its grat fun watching them shrivel up and die

Interesting! lol i imagine a hot air gun would kill any dormant mites too. incase there were any eggs sitting in the inside of the corners of a viv?

Yea that was why i originally tried it (started with a blow torch but you have to be very quick lol) The other way is to seal up all the gaps around the viv stick a heat mat in and turn that and the bulb right up with the thermostats outside the tank. normally 65+ degs is enough to sterilise any hidden eggs

Cool, ive just aquired a a 4x2 wooden viv with lots of places you could have dormant mites, so this weekend ive been sanding stain/varnishing it! (i went round all the gaps with a hot air gun first then varnished. Will be sealing up all the corners tomorrow with a clean silacone sealent then will wack the heat mats and lamp on for a day. Will help kill anything that may be in there and will help cure the varnish, bonus!
I must sound so paranoid going to all this length just INCASE theres anything in there lol. Better safe than sorry though eh!

Default Hypoaspis mites

Hypoaspis mites have done the trick for me its taken just over a week to sort the problem out on by Boa and Milksnake but they seem to have gone. Just keep the environment humid.

I purchased the mites from Defenders - Safe Effective Natural Biologist Pest Control for Gardeners
they are a natural predator of the Sciarid Fly, but also eat snake mites!
Great little beasties
