I forgot about frontline but from what i've read it can cause some problems but i've not used it and if people have and found no problems it's good that it's included just think the potential problems should be mentioned.
Hi Folks.
another method of getting rid of mites, told to me by a guy that owned a big snake house in birmingham was to cut a corner off a vapona fly killer, comes in a block that looks like a potatoe waffle, use a peace about an inch worth.
hang it from ceiling in the viv, preferably where snake doesnt rub along it, leave it in the viv for 24 hours only, take it out and retreat after a week till they are gone, didnt apear to have any ill effects, is quite cheap to buy and lasts ages.
the guy had been into snakes nearlly all his life, and had a shop and massive warehouse that he bred most types of snakes, also had a dwa licence and kep genuine indian pythons, and bred them. so new what he was on with.
i used to drive from lincoln to brum for all things snake, just because i trusted the guy, and he knew his stuff..

I cant seem to find the yellow vapona fly killer anywhere these days. That used to be the best in my opinion) for killing mites. However, a friend of mine recently ad a mite problem and he used a colony of mite-eating mites to kill them. cleared uo the problem in just a few days and no chemicals were used. Cant remember what they are called, but you can get them off the net.

Smile Not Used One In Ages My self

i havent used a vapona in years, just they were the best last time i kept snakes, had over 30 pairs at that time so didnt really want any little nasties gettin in and anoying them......
painted my tat studio white and reminded me of the snake room, so decided to get a couple and see where it all went....

lots more little friends planned...

Default Mites

Ive found Preventamite was brilliant, dunno how joe bloggs can get it tho. My son luckily works in friends premises - Serpentus Exotics of Townhill in Fife, who routinely use this to be proactive in mite erradication - no matter how spotless your place, when you buy in you risk mites.

You do have to remove your animals from the room where the tanks are being sprayed, you leave in all climbing or hide furnishings but food/water or live plants etc must be taken from room also.

Couple of hours after spaying you can replace your animals back in tank, without changing substrate. It works by killing off the cycle of the mite so any eggs that may be in substrate never hatch and repeat the mites cycle and infestation.

Been using it for 18 months with no ill effects to my happy band of snakes and large lizards
