I think some of the you dont need a stat info that is going around comes from american keepers who use different mats to us .you will need to control the temp of the viv some how and can only do that with a stat, its ok to say my mat only gets to 80 but it will keep on pumping out 80 even if the room temp is 80 like it is hear at the moment and that will make the viv way to hot not to mention no stat = fire risk it may not just be the snake at risk but you and your family if a fire starts
