the pad lifted

the probe is in a channel, i like duct tape it stick like a moth***ka to sticky plastic

probably the absolute most important advice re stat probes is they *MUST* be securely fixed, theier worse than useless if they can wiggle free.

stat turns on, heatpad well heats, heat travels -air gap -tub bottom-substrate(if not burrowers)-the mass of the snake, becuase i calibrate using the thermometer inside the tub, (again securely fixed) the 88 or whatever is not the same as the stats 88 infact the pads will be a good bit hotter, but makes no difference to me or the snake as its diffused down to what the thermometer tells me

I'm fairly new to keeping reptiles, and thank christ I never asked him for advice! I'm so glad I read care sheets, and listened to experienced keepers, 99% of which, told me to use a stat.
SO, I THINK I'LL GO WITH THE MAJORITY ON THIS ONE!!!!

so theres a sort of level structure type do'da deal, 15mm melamine with a groove for the probe, then the pad, then the tub (or cage but polysty not 15mm melamine) then the snake. what happens below the snake is only as important as the thermometer in the tub tells me. one of the things about these ikea boxes i use is that i got them second hand and therfore everyone has a different convex/concave bottom, ie if i rig two boxes on two shelfs to the same stat then thier not going to give me the same temp under the snakes ass, and if they do its sheer luck, level 1 and 2 on the same stat give me 29 on 1 and 31 on 2, if its workable its do'able more than that and i use more than one stat, when i had 8 levels and 8 boxes i used 8 stats! becuase the variation was annoyingly random.
