It's a shame you're going to get a thread locked that could actually save the lives of a few snakes.

Lol there are two issues on here one the thermostats, and the other the euthanising so i was never posting anything unrelated.

And all it does is go onto another page.

just a question so dont eat me alive cause i have just spent half an hour going through this thread..

but how can a mat not be in a viv .. i understand glass tanks and RUBs but if i didnt have my heat mat inside my wooden viv the temps on the actual heat mat would have to be burning hot to even get the temp in the viv the right temp (which is 90f on the floor) having it under the viv it simply wouldnt reach that

(it is covered in lino though so the animal isnt directly on the mat)

Yeah it has to go in wooden ones, just make sure theres alot of substrate over it.

Heat doesent go as easyily through wood as it does glass.

Obviously use a stat with everything. also they provide protection in case of surges etc.

Is your house heating controlled by a thermostat? Or does it just come on full blast every day?

With wooden viv's you are better off with a bulb or a ceramic than a heat mat. Although heat mat instructions advise that you put the heat mat on the back or side wall of the vivarium so that the snake cannot lie directly on it, even then they can often squeeze themselves in behind it.

I do have one on the outside side wall of a couple of my wooden vivs for Russian rat snakes. These only require a warm end temperature of 78F and a 24"x12" heat mat gets it to that with no problem at all.
