Default My New Garage reptile room

okay so in my new house the garage has been partially converted into a room - which will be my bedroom, but the garage door is still intact and functioning...basically there is a partition wall to split the garage, now on the garage door side of this partition is where my reptile room is going to be and by october I will be keeping...:
Sinaloan milk snake
Royal Python
Colombian Rainbow boa
Hogg Island Boa
Bearded Dragon

there will be 2x 4ft vivs (colombian and bearded) both on statted heat sources pulse/halogen, though the beardy has no night heat source..

all the other will be kept in mat-statted RUB's of various sizes on a shelf rack

currently the garage door is not insulated which is something I want to do to keep my leccy bill down, the only other doors are, a fire door to the bedroom and an open frame to the washroom under the stairs.

can anyone see any potential problems with this and whats the best way to insulate the door...I want to keep costs down to a minimum as this is my first house!!
also...i'm a little concerned about the beardies night temps...especially in winter.... would you suggest putting a heatmat in? or do you think if I put the colombian on the bottom the heat that would rise from its ceramic (250watt) at night would sustain a decent night temperature for him as well?

- Every time you open your door your collection is going to be on show. wont be long before some undesirables find out and come and have a nosey.

- It'll be a nightmare trying to insulate a tradition metal door. The nature of them means you have to leave quite big gaps around the egdes to open it.

the intention is that door RARELY gets opened, its not going to be used for anything other than reptiles so the only time it will get opened is to bring something BIG in.
plus its a really quiet area and the garage door backs onto a courtyard not a public facing area.

its a new build by the way as-well (less than a year)

In my opinion mate, the heat rising from the 250w will be enough to sustain a fair temp at night in the viv above, but in all honesty, the best way to find out is to set it up and find out, using empty vivs, because no two scenarios will be exactly the same.

Other than that, mucho jealouso lol.

I'm doing much the same thing as you, converting a garage (starting on Monday) and I'm just blocking up the garage door and insulating. But then, nothing that big will be coming in, everything can be built from the inside

problem is I wont have any empty vivs as I'll literally be putting them in there as soon as I move in.
I'm not too concerned about the summer months, the the british winter can be a bit cold so aside from insulation do you think it would be worth investing in a storage heater?

and could you reccomend any particular insulation and the best way to fix it to the door...I realise i'll need strips to seal the sides and bottom of the door too.

and to be honest its not a huge area, but i can get vivs upto 5x2x2 in there but already got 2 x 4 foots..

the short wall is going to have home made racking for rubs.
only other things I might keep in vivs are a couple of ackies or a GTP/ETB

i have found using a ceramic in a bottom viv will heat up the viv above but i think you may well find it warms a beardie viv up to much......one of my vivs has a reptile radiator just to keep the ambient temps up , the viv directly above it has a floor temp of 88 from the heat of the rad alone
