I was at a show recently near me and saw one of these. THey are great looking snakes. They were kept in the HOT area, but the seller was adamant that they were not really a threat compared to most or all the other HOT snakes. I always wondered how bad the venom was. I've never been bit by a venomous snake before, but know I have reacted moderately bad to other things like bee stings and such. Threads like these show more of a reality of what might happen to me if I tried to get a species like this.

Great pictures and time line.

Sorry to bring this up again, but I felt I should comment. I don't go out of my way to get bitten by any snake, particularly one of these, but when you have 25 fwcs that need to be cleaned out every day, it is all to easy to become complacent. I merely pointed out that I had received a number of bites to illustrate that the average bite does not result in a reaction like this. This was not an allergic reaction, this is what venom does, I for one was very impressed and suprised.

Again, I'm glad that this has been of some value.
Cheers,
David.

did you need any treatment at all mate?forgive my question as im not to clued up on the fwc species and bites.
and to all you people that are going on about the bites and how many times hes been bit, this is over a number of years since he has been keeping these snakes so its not like he wants them to bite him on purpose, accidents happen when you have a hobby like this or assist feeding for that matter,if anyone is scared of getting bitten in this hobby i think you should take up collecting stamps as one day u will get bitten by whatever you are keeping, not slagging anyone off by the way im just saying.and great pics by the way mate

I am not picking fights but I know people with far more snakes... than either you or him who do not get bit.....once in a blue moon maybe but not on a regular basis...
Whatever snake you keep......getting bit should not be an accepted part of looking after any snake.......that's all I said

On the contrary, getting bitten is an inevitable part of keeping snakes.Keep them long enough and you will get bitten. You'll see when you get there.

Ouch that looks a tad painful. How long did it take for all the swelling to go down including the lymph nodes? Or is there still some swelling? Did you have any after affects from your body processing it like a dodgy stomach or feeling like your liver had been on the raz without you?

Still a lovely looking little one that had a chew so easily forgiven
