Default False Water Cobra bite 30/07/09.

At 22:10 on 30/07/09 I received a number of bites from this two month old fwc.

One to the ring finger of my right hand lasted for ~20 seconds before I could remove the young snake. This is my finger about 10 minutes after the bite.

1hr after.

24hrs after.

The swelling went to about half way up the forearm, the hand is very tender and the lymph nodes under my right armpit are quite painful.
My hand and arm are still swollen and tender, the lymph nodes still painful ~38hrs on. I have received quite a lot of bites from fwcs and the vast majority have amounted to nothing.

On a more positive note, this hypo hatched out yesterday.

David.

Ooooo nice! dreading that happening to me when one of the hoggies decides to have a taste!
was it because the snake held on for longer this time that it was more severe??

Completely agree
Too many people on here use crap like wikipedia to give out info.

Great photos and the hypo looks lovely

Unlucky David thats quite a swelling, any idea why this bite is worse than the rest?

Try to keep us updated with any new developments.

And people say their bites aren't bad. Underestimated.

Thanks for the responses, I'm glad it has been of some value. I'd like to point out that this is by no means the norm, but its always good to know what can happen. I've certainaly developed a healthier respect for this species. Just for a bit of further information, the culprit is 33cm long and ~50g in weight, I'd love to know how much venom it was able to deliver in the short period of time it was attached to my finger.

Will keep you updated of any developments.
Cheers,
David.
