Draft of Petition letter. . . .

I have wrote this as a cover letter for the pro keepers petition. I know it's not great, but thought it would be best short, and to the point. If someone does start one, I am willing to help all I can.

If in bold red is something I need comfirming as I'm not sure on how true it is.

So, what do you think?





We, as reptile keepers are dedicated to caring for our animals in a safe, and healthy manner. We believe that responsible keeping is the most important part of our hobby, and public safety is of great importance.

Snakes kept in captivity are fully dependant on us for food, water, and the correct environment. In no way do we support people keeping these animals in a way which may cause harm to other animals, ourselves, the public, and of course the snake itself.

We are aware of the recent bad press regarding snake keeping, and we would like to voice that these tragic mishaps were isolated incidents, and that the owners were fully responsible.

Snakes can make great pets, and are very rewarding to own and care for. But, as with everything else, there is always someone who is willing to spoil it for the rest of us. There has been no recorded fatalities regarding a captive, or wild snake in the UK since the 1970’s, yet many people die from dog attacks every year. This, bringing to light the fact that snakes are a very safe pet to own, and usually only kept by responsible people with a genuine interest in these animals.

I wouldn't mention dog attacks - not sure on numbers but AFAIK lots of people die after being crushed by cows. That will read better I think
