Default H.e.r.o/beks

Is anyone actually serious about setting this up? I know BEKS is already estabilished with Joel, me and other S.Wales members.

Because if you people are. I'd do the site.

I'm with you all the way.

I think the best way to get this off the ground is to start with a brainstorm. We need a mission statement outlining the aims of the organisation. I also think a 'code of practice' should be put in place for animals at shows, keeping of large boids, rehoming/rescues etc. I also think we should look to recruit some specialists who can back us up and offer advice on our statements and campaigns - some experienced herp keepers, animal welfare officials and experienced reptile vets. I think it should also include sections detailing U.K. legislation relevant to reptile keeping (Animals Welfare Act, DWA licensing info etc) so people can use it as a point of reference.

I strongly believe this would be a valuable opportunity to build bridges with those organisations that seem hell-bent on bringing us down through sheer ignorance. If we can encourage groups like IAR to enter into discussions with us to find out exactly what their problems are (seems like its mostly confusion about the numbers of WC animals in the hobby and the care of animals at shows) then we can work with them to find a solution both parties are happy with. Rather than simply going head-to-head with our opposers, lets try and work towards something mutually productive and beneficial. And if they don't want to play ball - well, we can state that clearly on the website!

Anyway, that's my take on it - if people post all their ideas and suggestions here I'm happy to work on writing it up into articles etc.

They're some great ideas! If some of the more well known Private Breeders / Rescue owners were to participate and share their bit on it, it'd have a good reputation to put forward with.

As I said, if it all goes ahead and a lot of interest is given, I'll design up a website and we can put it into practice.

Awesome.

We'll keep the whole Society with shows, meets etc obviously.
And stick with those, Joels given me the go to organise it. We'll probably go for BEKS.org.uk (As it's unregisterred) and I'm sure someone offered hosting.

Red9s offered to help with articles and content also.
Will start a design now, and get it working. Just the issue of getting the site name.

Will show previews here inabit.

Keep it bumped and going!
