Exclamation Heatmat isn't working ?!

I noticed recently that my on/off thermostat was constantly lit up, so I checked the temperature of the mat and there was no heat coming off it at all...

so I plugged the heatmat into the mains to check if it was the heatmat but the heatmat started to heat up!

what could be the problem????

i had that problem, so i took the stat apart (just the 4 screws) then fiddled with the wires, make sure they haven't come unattached, might be something that simple, worked for me

It could be a loose wire in the socket outlet of the stat the bit where you plug your heatmat in too.

That can happen with ON/OFF thermostats; I've found if the mat is secured on a good insulating surface it improves temperature consistency - I use both polystyrene and wood.

none of my mats have been on for a good few weeks, it will only come on it if needs to be, so if you plug it in the wall without a stat, it would work to its hottest point.

I plugged it into just the mains to see if it actually was working!
the stat is telling me that it needs to heat the tank up hence the red light coming on, so it isn't that the weather is hot, because actually it is quite cold in manch today
