As far as I am concerned t-bo is not taking any risks. It's up to other users who deal with me whether they want to take risks or not.

That's a hypothetical scenario btw, since like I have stated over and over and over again I don't have any intention of being part of the reptile trade in the foreseeable future.

It's completely unjust...

It's the principle and childishness of the matter. But whatever...

I'm not sure how this will affect people who may have IBD in their collection. Will they now want to post about it when they see the moderators punish them by removing access to parts of the forum... If I were a sensitive person who cared what people thought of me, I know I wouldn't want to disclose that information incase god forbid the mods and other members hated me... woe would be me....

Unless of course the person didn't actually *read* the "help and chat" section of the forum and just comes to RFUK for the classifieds, right?

At the end of the day, although the forum is a great resource, T-Bo does own it and does have the authority to restrict access to any part of it to any user he chooses.

Is there no way Elle could view the classifieds but only be barred from posting an ad.?

Good thread btw, I'm just sorry for what you have had to go through for it to be written

Sorry, I've just caught up on this thread and in answer, yes, you can just renew the paper every 6 weeks.

Exactly Pauline. I don't see how I can spread IBD via the interwebs by just browsing....

And why could I not have access to the invert, exotics and off topic classified sections if not anything else?

lol, big bad t-bo... well, this was the reply I sent to Elle when she asked why she couldnt see the classifieds:

Quote:
Hi Elle

Sorry, probably should have contacted you at the time. The access was removed when it was first braught to our attention that you had the case of IBD, it was way before it was announced on this forum. You had a recent sale on the classifieds and when we were notified of the problem thought it best to take some action.

Obviously you have since posted your thread and you are obviously dealing with this all in a very responsible manner, not that we thought you wouldnt be, so if you need access to some of the other parts of the classifieds I can open them up.

Chris
Quite civil dont you think, I apologised for not notifying her way back when the access was removed and offered to open up the other parts of the classifieds now that the matter had been announced.

I then get all this "taking the piss" "hypocrisy" "pathetic" posted up here, there was no need in my opinion. The action was only taken in the interests of the members of this forum.

Awrite T-bo. It's your forum, do what you like. If you are still offering to open up whatever areas of the classifieds you had in mind, then I'll happily accept.

All I am trying to do is the right thing and stand by my own judgment. I'll not apologise or take back anything I have said to anyone or about my situation. People can say and do what they like. Yes I am a stubborn mule, aren't most "youngsters"...

I have so much to say and I don't fear the uproar or backlash it may cause. But it is unnecessary, that you are right about. So I'll hold my tongue, this once.

And there is no reason I could not buy any more snakes if I wanted to. HOWEVER I have made the descision NOT to while I am unsure of the future of my current collection. That would be highly irresponsible.
Sorry to hear about your snake. However, I think you are being overly critical with reference to classifieds access. IF you WERE to try and sell a snake, there are more than enough new people to reptiles that have no clue whatsoever what IBD is, and are unlikely to look it up without that knowledge.
Whether you personally would or would not isnt my place to say, but if someone has access to classifieds whats to stop them PMing people who are asking for snakes and offering them out that way?

I think the site admins probably make the right decision if you look at it from a different perspective. They are protecting a larger cross-section of the forum in the only way that they can. If you were allowed to advertise (whether or not you actually do so is really irrelevant to the reasoning) and someone else got IBD, and the site admins knew about it, then fingers would be pointed and blame thrown around.
