It's amazing that the people who gave me so much crap about all this incident have either little or nothing to say now... And I agree, more people need to see this.

This may help people who don't health-check new purchases, who don't quarantine properly, who don't use proper hygiene procedures. If they read it and learn from it. Unfortunately some people won't take those measures seriously until they lose their own animals.

I hope that last part wasn't some kind of dig... if not my apologies. And yes, I agree...

Well the mites were snake mites. I only use kitchen towl or newspaper substrate for ALL my snakes. I find other substrates too messy (as I have black carpet in one room). I found them on the snakes I bought in December first, so I can only assume they came from the person I bought them from. However I don't think the person I bought them from knew of the mites as it wasnt until early January I found the mites. I imagine it was a few stray eggs that came with them, hatched and started the typical mite cycle. I had NEVER had mites before I bought those snakes in December.

As to where the IBD came from, I don't have a clue. It would be wise to assume that the snake that died from it is the source ie Clementine. However nobody else I have spoke to that had bought corn isles from Ian Bennett has had any IBD symptom snakes. And Ian himself says he had had no dead snakes recently. Whether or not any of this is true I don't know.

The thing is I have bought from so many people through the years. I have bought from well known members on here. And I think they would panic if I mentioned names. So I wont. Because I will never be able to track back where the source of the virus came from.

I think a billion people have requested it becomes a sticky. I don't know why it hasn't... I may send some mods a friendly PM. I see no reason why this information should not be amoungst things like the importance of thermostats and threads on how to get of mites...
