got a brongersmai with a strange silvery slightly opaque patch on his eye which seems to have gotten worse, not better, with the last moult...so i'm thinking he must've had a retained cap from before i got him (i tend to check the skin for them most times)...so i'm going to give this a try.
cheers WLW!

Thought i mentioned it somewhere in this whole thread.

Whole host of reasons for eye caps....however most of the time its people only increasing the humidity as they go blue...which is pointless

Increasing humidity as they go into slough has always worked for me. Pretty much all of mine choose NOT to sit in moist hides the little

If I ever get retained shed a soak for an hour or 2 in water of 30c (royals) always seems to loosen the offending snake armour. which either comes off floating in the water or slides off with a gentle rub.

I only have one male who sufferes from retained eye caps and only if i miss his shed cycle and don't raise humidity. Again, a soak for an hour or 2 and it will come right off with a gentle rub of the thumb.

I do think your alternative method would work wonders on a snake that has been incorrectly maintained for longer periods and has multiple eyecaps, where a simple soak would be ineffective.

Keep up the good work of educating the uneducated, mr wildlifewilly sir, I salute you.

Andy.

You see i have to disagree with this.
Has it really worked for you? Sloughing it a natural process where the skin absorbs moisture in the air. When it goes blue thats the natural oils being distributed under the new and old layer of skin. Thus misting a snake when this has happened is pointless as the old(top layer) of skin can not continue to absorb any more as its dead.

Personally if you feel its working for you then my personal opinion is your humidity has been correct like it should be and as i would have expected from you

If I don't mist them they shed badly. If I mist daily when i've noticed they are in slough they shed well. I mist quite heavily as a lidless tub in a rack dries out fairly fast. (it's not the same for all my racks, but one in particular)

Maybe it's just black magic or voodoo curses but the evidence points to it being an effective method.
