Default Boa eye damage

Hey,

I've just noticed a problem with one of my boa's eyes. The outer lens/scale seems to be broken in in the middle - if you look closely, it is fine and nomal except for the middle, which is buckled inwards. The other eye is fine, and his pupils both contract normally in reaction to light. He seems to be able to see out of the damaged eye about as well as with his good eye, so is there anything to worry about?

Has anyone noticed anything like this before? I'm pretty sure it isn't a retained eye cap, as his last shed was fine. In all other ways he seems fine and healthy, and just left me a rather big present to clean up...

Have you not got the shed to check? Or if he's due to shed it could be coming off early?

Thanks - I've checked his last shed, and both eye caps are there and undamaged. He's not showing any signs of going into shed, and it looks just like the centre of the eye has caved in, rather than a bit of stuck shed. It doesnt seem to be a problem for him, just a bit worrying...

I'd give him a bath, see if you can convince him to have a drink.

Are you sure it's not a scale cap from a previous shed? I don't really know what else it could be?

Thanks - I've just tried giving him a bath. He was a rather uncooperative little thing, and he certainly had no intention of drinking, although the dint actually seems to have gone. I'll give him another bath tomorrow evening, just to be sure.

Sounds good I don't know if a moist hide would help, I don't know if he'd bother using it lol
Plus I'd make sure he's got a nice big water bowl he can pop into

sounds like an air pocket in the eye cap....often when you bath them the air in there is replaced with mositor and it sticks back down so it can be seen...kind of like sticking vinyl decals on a car

I've just checked him again, and his eyes are both fine. He doesn't seem dehydrated, but I'll keep an eye on him, and he's got a nice big water bowl if he ever decides to drink - not that he ever goes near it, even when in shed. Anyway, thanks for the advice!
