Default Spare Room -> Snake Room

Ok,

So i have quite a collection of snakes now, 2 burms, 4 royals, 5 corns and a rat snake in the house.

Now i have a spare room which is probably about 4mx3m so not massive and i was in B&Q the other day and they had some electric mini heaters on sale at £8 a piece so i grabbed one thinking it maybe possible to heat the room to a warm enough temperature for the snakes.

Now one of the things i believe is true is its recomended to have an ambient temperature and then a hot spot in each viv/rub etc so my question is, by heating the room am i really going to cut down on costs that much?

James

i would think it would take more than 1 little heater to keep an accurate ambient temp in your room you could try it before you start your snake room and see what temp it holds, and tbh ceramics or heatmats are prob more economical and the heater may help in the winter tho.

I use a "DeLonghi Dragon Oil-Filled Radiator" in my snake room, it has an adjustable thermostat and this easily heats the room on the very lowest power output setting. Thermostat isn't the most accurate but it's acceptable keeping the room at 75 to 80F.

A heated room will really only lower consumption of things like ceramics noticeably or other things used for raising ambient temps. For mats which provide a basking spot the savings might be negligible.

You will run up big bills running an electric heater- Personally i wouldent bother adding extra heating unless its a particularly cold room. If i did however i would get an extra radiator installed.
