Default the cost of keeping snake

since the thread about the energy calculator its made me think how people with large collections can afford such a thing. i ony have 3 snakes but still, the cost of food, substrate and if the calculator is accurate, heat mounts up.

Some people cut back on other things to afford it. I don't go out to pubs / clubs much now, would rather spend my money on my hobby.

To be honest I haven't found my electricity bill to have increased that much since I started keeping.

I breed my own rats so apart from rat food and wood shavings to clean them out there's no cost for food.

As for buying the actual snakes I save or find someone willing to do payment plans.

Electricity is the biggest thing for with my bills gone from £50 a month to £150 a month in 3.5 years.

and alot of people breed their own rats/mice and use newspaper as substrate so they sont have to spend that much money to keep snakes

I was thinking about breeding mice again but as most of mine are on medium-large mice it'd probably cost me more to grow them on than it would to buy them from the shop.

Newspaper is legendary! You should try it when you've got a Burm. Those things piss like racehorses. I've sometimes changed the newspaper twice a day. And a Royal who like to wait until you've cleaned him up so he can mess the place up again

I breed my own mice for the babies. Use Newspaper for bedding. And we work hard and cut back on a lot of things. Saying that we still manage to go out a few times a month, go for meals and the cinema...its finding a balance between life and hobby.

My boas normally good for crapping in whatever box he has as a hide, but when he doesn't there's no way I could easily spot clean it. Much easier just changing the whole lot.

I'll keep it in mind if I ever get a burm in future (really considering it)
