Default MITES! on my new boa

I have a 3.5 year old boa in a brand new setup and I've just noticed she has mites. What should I do?

Ive been told to use olive oil on her and wash it off twice a week but will this kill the mites in the viv too?

She has a small raised bump on her back presumably from a mite bite so I want to get them gone quick.

Whats the best way? Moneys not really an issue just want them gone for sure????

Thank you!

alright hun your best bet is to buy some ardap for the viv and use beaphar insect spray on her, i had this problem with my big male and after one treatment of ardap the viv was clear and after a two hour long soak and a spray of beaphar jordan was clear. for now if you cant get your hands on any treatment removed everything including substrate form her viv apart from a hide her water bowl and replace the substrate with newspaper, and bath her.

i hope this helps
give us a shout if you need any more info

A warm bath (in a closed Rub) with a few drops of vegi oil in will sort out the problem on the snake. The viv is different you'll need to get a good anti mite spray from a good reptile shop. Clean inside and outside of viv, Spray, only use newspaper for a few weeks, repeat every week for a month or so.
theres a thread at the top of the snake main page on these treatments.

Regards Deano......

Yep ardap for the viv, a little olive oil in water for the bath. Just make sure you let the fumes dissipate properly with the ardap. It's great stuff

Thanks for the replies! I got some newspaper sprayed with ardap from Reptile Cymru thanks to Phil/Ben/Christy, cleaned out the viv and put that in. Then bathed the boa in olive oil and water before towelling her off and watching TV with her for a while .

Hopefully that'll sort it but I'll repeat it all in a few days!

Thanks again, hope she's alright!

you may find you have to buy a can of ardap as the little bug devils from hell get everywhere and is best to treat the whole viv top to bottom.

i would repeat this process every 3-4 days over a period of 3-4weeks for best results

also when you use the ardap spray the whole viv inside and out and also around the viv on floor ect and also hoover to get mite eggs thathave beenlaid in the carpet
