Default Ceramics and bulbs?

Do ceramics use more electricity than a bulb if controled by a pulse stat?
Any info would be great, thanks.

I think it depends on the individual wattage of the bulb you are using.

A 100w ceramic will use exactly the same amount of electricity as a 100w bulb......

However, as a ceramic is more efficient at turning the electricity into heat, it may be on for less time!

like he said^, exepet a ceramic is much more efficant as all the power used is turned into heat, with a bulb the majority of power is turned into light.
will only be innefficent if the bulb is under powered or too high from the floor.
100w should do a 3x2 fine. larger bulb will heat quicker so be on for less time.

i do lose alot of heat out the top of the viv though so im trying to sort a reflector to fit inside my gaurd.

hope that helped.

Yeh thanks, just wanted to know if the ceramics are more efficient and sounds like they are so all good.
Cheers guys.

A comparable wattage ceramic and heat bulb will only use the same amount of energy if they are both running at 100%.

If they were both on thermostats, however, then the heat lamp will use more energy as it also has to use the energy to create light as well as heat. The ceramic only requires energy to create heat.

So in real terms a statted bulb will use more energy than a statted ceramic

Slightly off topic but would not a dimmer stat be better with a bulb, Less of the 'disco' effect...

yea, you cant use a pulse stat on a bulb.

and crowman to add to your comment. if to comparables were running flat out they would use the same amount of energy but the ceramic would be a 100% hotter if not more, and being ceramic doesnt cool down as quick, so still releases heat when switched off, for alot longer.

I like some of the answers in this post, words like wattage and efficiency turn me on. Im truly a bad, sad lad.
