Do you mean you want to use rat/hamster substrate for your snakes?

If that is what you meant, then its a definite no no. why would you want to use rodent substrate when you have so many other choices that are so much better for your snakes???

You may have seen something called 'aspen'. It looks like the woodshavings you see for use with rodents but is not the same stuff. Rodent bedding contains pine and as you know thats toxic for reps. You need to look around for 'aspen' or 'aubiose' as they are safe for use with reptiles!

Cheers

Andy

Yep exactly. We get aspen by the bale and it works out really cheap. Can't see any advantage to using shavings whatsoever. I have a feeling he was perhaps mistaken.

Without knowing what the substrate actually is, how would anyone know if it's ok? A lot of rat/mouse substrates are actually made for other animals. A lot of people here use Aubiose/hemp for their snakes, which is well known as safe rat bedding in the rat fancy, so not all rat beddings are unsuitable.
