Default RUB piccies + snakes

Just wondered if people could share pics of their RUB style set ups for inspiration, and whether there's any other species (than my corn snake) who'll do well in RUBs?

I'm considering a different small species of snake in the future (possibly milk?), but for now I'm doing up (corn snake) The Nyx's RUB - and could do with inspiration. I've got some big pieces of cork left from when I kept inverts, and hubby's been sent out to buy aspen (or similar) to replace the newspaper.

New snake will have to wait til Santa's recovered from Christmas, but would still love piccies, examples and suggestions...

depends on what you feel capable of caring for, but i recently visited a fellow RFUKer who kept almost all his snakes in rubs. he had amazon tree boas in tall rubs, rubber boas, argentine rainbow boas, jamaican boas, california king snake, egg eating snake, calabar python, viper boas in rubs, and anthill pythons in tiny rubs about 6 or 8 inches long. alot of these are quite rare and hard to care for, but the rainbow boa could be ok and so could the cali king and amazon tree boas. you could also keep royals, spotted pythons, childrens pythons, kenyan sand boas etc. you can keep pretty much any small terrestial snake happily in a rub, and taller rubs can be used for things like amazon tree boas.

Thank you very much for all the ideas

I'd like something a little different, although I'm on a budget (eg not into the hundreds), and I'm not a boa fan (actually, I think they're lovely but they're all a bit big and chunky for me - yep, even royals!). From what I've been reading into briefly, I'm a colubrid kind of person (did I get that right?). I prefer milk snakes, king snakes, smaller rat snakes - also quite taken by trinkets - but as I'm really very new to snakes, I'd want something fairly (very!) simple to care for, and easy to handle. Preferably at the smaller end of the scale (eg around corn snake size or below).

Edited to add: I'd love to hear about the different types of milk snake, and which get to what size (the internet gives conflicting details!) and what are hardiest etc.

Hi LisaLQ,

I keep a 3 foot dwarf reticulated python in a 33L RUB with heatmatt, termostat, 2 x digital thermometers, 2 hides, watr bowl & some plants. for substrate i use plain newspaper purchased from my local chip shop

I have a short video on youtube which shows his RUB & him striking for a dead mouse. Once he gets bigger ill move him to a viv.

YouTube - kayudai dwarf retic strike

hope im allowed to post youtube links.

Your RUB looks really good! im sure your corn will be really happy

I keep my Amazon Tree Boa in a RUB. It's 35l and I've attached some mesh to the lid so I could place a spot lamp there.

I might buy an Exo Terra tomorrow though, 60 x 45 x 60.

Thanks guys for all the info and ideas Loved the video, Tim, that's a rat not a mouse though (I breed for that marking - but for show/pet, not snake dinner LOL).

Really glad you like the set up, she's enjoying it too (very active tonight!).
