don't feel bad, shops don't always know best, you are only as good as your experence if you know what I mean. The first shop I bought a snake (corn) from was crap, gave me really bad advice. I, like you, did not know any differnet asnd trusted that they knew best

Anyway we all like to help thats why we come on here

Sorry to be the one to say this...but that guard is as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Surely you can see the corn is young enough to slip STRAIGHT through those gaps?

Shops can be difficult. When my OH got his first snakey there was no mention of a stat. Was just given a little starter kit with viv, mat, bedding and a water bowl. Neither of us realised at the time about stats, we were told that the heat mats would never get above about 26C!! And these were guys who said they had many reps of their own, so how could they think that?? But now we do know and make sure every one we have is statted. Two of my housemates have 3 snakes between them, all from the same shop, they do not even SELL stats let alone advise people to use them. It's the only place i can get substrate from at this time, other than that i deal with them as little as possible.
Not all bad though, Shirley aqautics in Brum was a dream compared to that, sold all the kit you need, and gave full heating and stat advise.

Infact...it's almost worse than the naked bulb...as your corn will just use that as a climbing frame now.
