Poor thing ... all I can say is vets ... asap. Tumerous cysts or subcutaeneous parasite. Was the snake WC when first bought?

Apparantly it was bought from pets at home about 9 years ago, 3 years before i met my partner and 6 years with my partner...... He is going to the vets on friday afternoon...Im a bit upset that i didnt notice it any sooner I just hope it not bad news!!!! Some one said if it is ticks, they could have come from the chippings?

It would definately be a WC then. At the same time the average age of garter snakes is around the 10-15year mark (with the occaisional exception). Yours is a red-sided and I'm guessing male. The second picture definately doesn't look like a tic to me (I hope I'm wrong) but I do think age related cysts/cancerous activity is a pretty good bet, unfortunately. Fingers crossed for the little one, I hope that whatever it turns out to be is treatable. But don't beat yourself up about not noticing it sooner. These things can stay dormant for a while and then suddenly blossom to full grown tumors. They can be removed in some cases.

Perhaps my laptop screen aint that clear,

but can you touch it as sometimes you can see their legs move, that ill be one way to make out if it is a tick or not
