However within this climate, there is no where I am willing to folk out that kind of cash to admit her and I and then have to buy membership again in a few weeks time. So in some ways its actually pushed us out the event as "newbies" if you like.

Perhaps its because i dont understand this "antis" thing as i have no idea whats happend or what they are but surely there could have been a facility that anyone bougt membership for these last couple of weeks of the year could have it roll over to next years rather than try and get two lots of membership out of people. Kinda sad that is my first impression of this organisation and events.
It isn't a problem with the organisation or the show.

Anti's is a term used to describe people who don't believe we should be allowed to keep reptiles as pets for one reason or another.
Shows attract a lot of attention because of the large number of animals, breeders and people in attendance. So at most shows there are Anti's.

What we need to do is to conduct ourselves well and keep the hobby reputable by keeping our animals fit and healthy. We need to work to prove that when kept correctly reptiles are no different to other animals.

It is really unfortunate that this show has to be a members only show this time around but better that than no show at all. Or even fuelling the fight against our hobby.

Any new legislation to slow or stop the keeping of reptiles would be really bad news and I believe totally unjustified.

I'm not a part of the organisation of this show but I do support the IHS by paying my membership each year. I think it is really important to help keep the hobby alive. It is unfortunate that membership now has to run Jan-Dec which makes it pointless to join now.

I do wish my best to the organisers of the event and realise how hard they work to make these things possible - especially given the problems they have been up against this year.

Keep up the good work guys and lets hope that in future people will be able to attend as non members again.

Wow, sorry for the essay

Cheers

So was it the organisers fault that the antis are about for the Exeter show that just happened and your planned IHS show?
Actually, tell me if Im wrong but didn't they try to pull the plug on the Exeter show prior to Kidderminster, so how is it there fault?

This is members only show u don't want to join then don't. The ihs put on two non member days at the dome Doncaster. Whole point is members only. I like the fact that this is a members only event. Originaly it was to do with antis but it hasn't been changed back either cos the college don't want them to or because the society don't want to. There is a lot of back history with antis and the ihs have been at the forfront of this. It all kicked off big style in the mid to late 1990s. Can't see it stopping either but that's another issue! It's good to be a member.

I really don't see why non-members are complaining, if you wanna go join its quite simple really.

If you want a non-membership show, how about organising your own, and then you can admit who you want..................no..............didn't think so.

I would love to organise my own! But apparently would get prosecuted or something by the sound of it...

I really hope it ends up being a good show for the sake of the hobby. But thats a riddiculous price to pay IMO just for stepping foot through the door - and id have to pay again in a month if i wanted to go next year too?

I dont think this comment is very useful, non-members are explaining why they are complaining.

I sugest you contact Richard brook if you want a full and frank explanation to that one, im not lowering myself to an online slanging match (as the antis would love us to fight amongst ourselves) I have been involved with the IHS since the early 80's on the central commitee or at branch level, and have seen the effects on the hobby by the antis over many years, all we are trying to do is ensure that the show goes ahead without cause for complaint, by anyone be it official or unofficial, the show is run to give our branch the coffers to hold meetings through the year and to have top quality speakers these monthly meetings are open to anybody to attend, go to our web site www.westmidlandsihs.co.uk for details

yes they are too tight to join, these things don;t organise themselves, and the IHS costs money to run.

its a PRIVATE MEMBERS show, the clue is in the name. Persoanlly I joined the IHS, not becuase I wanted to go to their shows, but to get the excellent magazine, to be able to partake in many events organised, and hopefully to contribute something to the hobby as a whole.

I pay my annual membership, and with that comes certain benefits. I fully respect people not wanting to join, but then why expect the same perks as paid up members?

It's a bit like me not paying my gym membership, then complain that they won't let me in!
