i agree vivs are much nicer.i also think rubs should be properly kitted out with hides etc but for breeders its not practical to keep every snake in a viv

I would imagine that the hides have been removed in the pictures you have posted so the snake can be seen. otherwise, why take a pic of a rub? and as has been said, they are not actually RUB's, just plastic tubs.

looks nicer to who ? you ? who says that the snake wants a big window to look out ? the RUB in its self is a hide as the sides are frosted so it cant see out .

Your banging you head against a brick wall. RUB's have their place in reptile keeping. But many people go well OTT. Think about it, if they didn't use RUB's they couldn't house the larger collections that they do. The UK $nake breeding brigage, couldn't make as much money or brag about the size of their collection on a forum.

It's convenient for the old "a snake doesn't need space" opinion. Blah, blah, yada, yada etc...

You know damned well that some people put their need for a collection before the needs of an animal. They'll all be along soon to remind yu that snakes can be kept in a heated empty bog roll soon enough.

Best

Both, the gneral lack of anthing for the snake other than the bare essentials.

I suspect flames coming your way as a lot of the mass breeders and petshops do it as its practical but Ive got to agree with you. What kind of a life is it. Theres no aesthetic pleasing there for us and for the snake it must be like sitting in a plastic hole all the time, no exercise unless a potential buyer wants a quick hold(in the case of petshops). Its even worse for the breeder snakes that only get moved when its mating time and even then its from one boring tub to another.

I think its just become accepted by everyone that small tiny enclosures is ok because the big breeders and shops do it and thats why we see so many on this forum with racks.

Each to their own I suppose.

As long as the animal is in good health that is all that matters but the phycological side isnt visible, therefore that doesnt matter so some keepers.

Snakes dont need aesthetic pleasing lol...i never used to like using plastic boxes but recenlty i have been using only one and i have to say the humidity is kept really well as well as the temps and in high traffic areas they are good as they are not fully transparent so gives the snake some security. your saying they are no good but people use them to breed in and imo if the snakes not happy it wotn breed.

all my snakes have regular pshyciatric treatment.

When they are bored they tap on the RUB, and I have a game of scrabble with them they love it, but they insist on starting everyword with double s and we run out of s' really quickly. Sometimes I take them to the gym too. They love the treadmills, but really struggle with the cross-trainers.

I have to say, our Royals have NEVER done better than they do now, and they are in RUBs. They never miss a fed, they are never grumpy when you go to get them out and shed like clockwork.
