Surely most animals would be better off in a viv with branches, vines etc as its a more stimulating environment for the animal overall? Sure they can live off the basics in a RUB but is it really the best you can give an animal?
The RUBS for my ATBs and other Corallus species have loads of climbing branches, a hide box etc.

A RUB is just a plastic viv. Easier to clean then a wooden one, and less likely to break than a glass one.

exactly! a 64Ltr RUB, or the really big one has plenty of room for branches and vines etc. i found a great storage tub, 190 Ltr, from B and Q, exact same size dimensions of a 3x2x2 viv, and it holds the humidity way better!

Right so the issue isnt RUB's its people perhaps using one thats too small or doesnt have the correct needs for the reptile within it.

Could say the same for vivs..they too need to be the right size and have the correct needs for the reptile.

So yeahh..

My leo is in a rub Shes ace! And doing fine..

Its plenty big, has hides, calci/food dish, water, heat mat, paper substrate, sticks and wee rocks to climb on and is a very happy friendly leo

I have 4 corns over 5 foot
thats a fair point, i take that on board. but I put my adult corn in a viv, she was probably 4 and a half foot, 600g, a big girl! she was totally intimidated, would not leave her hide night and day, cos nothing was disturbed in the morning. she was skitzy, wouldnt eat, and obviously did not feel happy. before this, in her RUB life, she has never missed a feed, and was nice and confident. not to say that some corns wouldnt like a viv, but mine did not. most corns, except possibly the larger ones, look completely dwarfed in a viv, regardless of how covered and full it is.

that is a very good point, the right sized RUB is very important.

Thanking you

Just dont see the point in the debate atall
It seems that no one really has any issue with RUB's
Just with people not providing the right care to their reptiles in terms of space and essentials.
Which can be said about anything xD

Its all down to the keeper, ive took in snakes that were 2ft and in a 4x2x2 viv. bad shed because the humidity wasnt enough, not feeding.
and the viv was a state!! no hides, stinky carpet, loads of stuff to hurt itself on. he went straight in a RUB to get his bad shed off and started eating etc.
some snakes wont eat unless their kept in a small space like a RUB.
and i agree with what some people have said, the humidity is easier to keep up so sheds are easier. ive had snakes in vivs and transferred them to a tub at shedding times. and when it comes to parasites rubs are easier to clean and disinfect.
viv or tub dosnt matter its the owner and how they care for the snake i think.

If you look at all the vivariums available to buy on the market, the majority of the newer designs tend to be plastic/synthetic (Vision, Herptek, Rhino...the list goes on). So that pretty much kills off the idea that RUB's are not suitable for reptiles because they're a plastic box (as opposed to a wooden one).

So, what then is the anti-RUB argument really about? If it's that RUB's are too small for reptiles then that's a pretty vague statement to make. RUB's come in a range of sizes (a far bigger range than any viv design that I can think of!)...and so do reptiles! To criticise RUB's for being too small isn't really a criticism of RUB's per se or their use as reptiles enclosures, it's a criticism of the keeper for not selecting an appropriately sized enclosure. A criticism which would be just as valid if I were to buy a 3 foot wooden viv to house a burmese python.

Similarly, if the anti-RUB argument is that RUB's are to sterile and basic, then that's not really a criticism of RUB's either...because an empty or sparsely decorated RUB is just as empty and sparse as an empty and sparsely decorated viv!

With a few obvious exceptions, it's not the type of enclosure that matters...it's what you do with it that counts!

i agree i mean f they think that keeping snakes in rubs is cruel well then keeping in vivariums is almost as cruel. so what he was saying is nonsence.
