Angry I now hate RUBS (Really Useful Boxes/storage boxes/conticos etc.)

Yes they're useful, but its the pricks that come with them.

I think they've done more damage to the hobby than good.

I'm not saying everyone with a RUB or a Rack is a nob but It's the people with RUBS or racks etc. that decide because this small box is so useful, that is all they need.

A life confined in a box with nothing but a water bowl.....is not a life.

Just Google and these kind of images come up

I honestly think its images like these, and the keepers who believe in these methods, are a lot of fuel to the fires of people against reptile keeping.

I feel sorry for the animals that live their life like that.

* I am using RUB as a generalisation for plastic storage boxes, not just Really Useful boxes are aimed at in this thread

most breeders keep them like that maybe with a better hide, but its simple a snake doesnt need a nice view in the morning all they need is the essentials and they are happy, a rub with a couple hides made from plastic is no different to a snake than a hide made from a piece of cork bark

I'm not dubting that, but look at those pictures, very few if any have any hides at all, regadless of what they're made of and in my personal opinion, a 2f box for a 5/6ft snake is not ideal.

I love you Goth Girl!! You are brave putting this up.

I suspect flames coming your way as a lot of the mass breeders and petshops do it as its practical but Ive got to agree with you. What kind of a life is it. Theres no aesthetic pleasing there for us and for the snake it must be like sitting in a plastic hole all the time, no exercise unless a potential buyer wants a quick hold(in the case of petshops). Its even worse for the breeder snakes that only get moved when its mating time and even then its from one boring tub to another.

I think its just become accepted by everyone that small tiny enclosures is ok because the big breeders and shops do it and thats why we see so many on this forum with racks.

Each to their own I suppose.

As long as the animal is in good health that is all that matters but the phycological side isnt visible, therefore that doesnt matter so some keepers.

Default 2 sides to story

I can understand the argument against RUB's n tubs as they are smaller and not as natural but they are a lot easier to clean etc. If youve got the room, vivs are best but if you dont then rubs n tubs are prob the best option!

ah..get where you are coming from now.

personally, my Royal, when I get him, will be in a RUB for the first year or so, then he will be having a nice Viv (all being well) I like them for some animals (royals in partic) but I wont ever understand keeping Leos etc in them
