Default Adenovirus test for snakes and lizards.

Hi All.

My internet has been down yet again all of yesterday right through to 4am this morning, and then it went again for a few moments taking a long pm that I had just written with it.

I wanted to let you all know that we do have two places here in the UK testing for Adenovirus in snakes and lizards, but here is the one with the best price for you all, along with a reply I received when checking to ensure first that they were able to run tests on snakes as well as lizards.

As you will see it is quite simple, so if any of you are worried then please have a word with them.

Kind Regards,

Mo.

Hi Maureen,

We can test for Adenovirus in snakes, we do a PCR test and we need either a cloacal or oral swab. The cost is £31.00 excluding VAT, valid until 31st December 2009.

Turnaround time is approx 7 days.

Kind regards,

Debbie

Well done Mo, that sounds like a really simple procedure to have the virus tested for. Anyone from that shipment could get this done, without the fear of harming their reptiles.

So all thats needed is a swab, sounds very straight forward

Perhaps if anyone has a possitive result they could let us know.

Excellent post, thank you Maureen

Can't tell you how reassuring that is. It means that a) we can test for Adenovirus safely with minimal stress to the snakes, and b) if any of us do have a positive for Adenovirus that it will be easy to test our other animals in order to contain the virus and treat it accordingly.

So very useful, thank you, Maureen!

I have the Inspector Gadget theme tune in my head now
Well done - Im sure this will help put peoples minds at rest if they decide to get their animals tested.

Excellent work, any new animals coming into my collection will be tested for this as part of their quarantine process.
