Default Uv requirements?

This debate has been interesting. I think the person advertising the Royal should have pointed out in his advert that the tube is not at the present time considered to be essential for the keeping of this particular species and that he was selling it mainly for display. Because if he doesn't point this out it sounds as though he is contributing to misinformation about the maintainance of reptiles being circulated. Especially when many reptiles do need UV. If he doesn't make this clear, then it would appear that he is hoping to make a cynical easy sale, implying that UV is necessary for Royals, as half the people I meet that keep reptiles wouldn't actually know whether royals could be maintained without UV.
It's like selling a set up with a ceramic heater and saying that it inculdes a dimmer thermostat, implying that the thermostat is necessary to work the ceramic heater and that it is needed for the set up, when in fact it isn't and it wont work. This is spreading misinformation about animal care in a passive aggresive way.

However the debate about uv being bad has been interesting and does highlight the fact that wild snakes always have access to UV and that snakes in captivity with no UV do not have the opportunity to access it in the same way. I also think that Cocky Royals prefers to pass on his limited knowledge to others as if it is from the reptile gospel (which is also spreading misinformation) and show how clever he is, rather than reading about the various opinions and research about the pro's and con's of uv for snakes, which would be much more useful for everyone. Sorry Cocky Royals. People who are quick to jump on others should do their research better, or accept the consequences.

That is a terrible analogy. A dimmer thermostat may not be necessary for the function of the heater, but a thermostat is definitely necessary for the welfare of the animal and IS needed for the set up.

Well, a thermostat of *some* sort is required for a ceramic - and I do use dimmers on ceramics here; they do work with ceramics. I *prefer* pulse stats with ceramics, but they're by no means the only way to do it

baring in mind that i don't keep bp, have no real interest in them and it's slightly off topic but is it still forum rules that they should be kept in a 2 inch box as they are agrophobic and will stop eating if they're in a normal size viv?

i'm exagerating, of course and curious if this is still the norm.

i've just come back on here after about a year of absence, rough year last year. so i'm finding my feet again on here.
